I installed Redhat 6.1 on my intel based PC. When i try to run an oracle web application form, it is asking for libXm.so.2 library. I downloaded motif rpm "openmotif-2.1.30-5_ICS.ia64.rpm" from the ICS web site. When i try to install this package i got an error. Following is the error message.
Only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM.
error openmotif-2.1.30-5_ICS.ia64.rpm cannot be installed.
I spent a lot of time but not able to install it. I would really appreciate if someone could help me. I would like to know which version of Motif do i have to install on Redhat 6.1. My glibc version is 2.2.12-20.

You downloaded the rpm`s for an Itanium system. You want the x86 rpms (the 5th option down).

Thanks for the information. I downloaded that rpm and installed using "rpm -ivh motif---.rpm" Looks it was applied and the library libXm.so.2 was there in the /usr/lib directory, but after that i am not able to start X-windows. When i type "startX" it is doing anything. I thought this is path problem. I went all the way upto /etc/X11 directory and try to start XF86Config it is giving a bunch of errors like [begin section not found, end of section not found, ....bunch of errors like this]. Did i screwup something. I am an oracle person, i do not have much knowledge about linux OS. I am trying to install oracle financial applications 11i on Linux. Could someone please let me know if i did anything wrong and there i anyway i can restore my system. Thanks in advance. I installed redhat linux 6.1 very recently, and i am just learning this now. Could someone please let me know the solution, so that i do`nt have to reinstall the whole OS again.

If you are typing "startX" then try "startx", all
lower case.
Did you remove the original installation of the Itanium system. If u didn`t u must remove all the files. Then u can install the new ones. Otherwise u can never guarantee any installation.
