Motif on AIX5.1-64

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 12/17/2001 - 11:02. General Questions
Is it possible to build Motif libraries on AIX5.1-64 bit machine? Does motif is supported on this platform? If we can build on this platform what is procedure for it?

ICS_support

I doubt that the platform is supported "out of the box", but it has two things going for it that AIX builds have existed in the past, and that 64-bit builds have existed in the past. Check the other Imake config files for the Cray machines to figure out 64-bit sensitivities i.e. where "ifdef ibm" refers to the other, older IBM machines.

i am fairly supprised that IBM doesnt provide the libraries already built with the OS. they typicaly are good at that, of course i cant check since i dont have access to a AIX5.1 box

I was trying to build the Xmt source on AIX5.1-64.
Xmt library got built. But after compiling my application, when I run the executable, it gives segmentation fault and dumping core!!!
Any clues?
Is the CD for Xmt on AIX5.1-64 is available?

Of course open motif is only usable on systems like linux (see its license).

IBM has great versions of motif as far as I know. Even some expensive ones )

What I would do is check your build log. Their is a good chance something simple didn`t happen.

For me, yacc was incorrectly byacc and one some uil things didn`t work. That was the one and only correction for me.

See if their is autoconfig for your platform. OpenMotif 2.2 uses it and that should do the compiling better, I think. It searches for requirments on you box then use the found elements - attempting to cope with what can`t be found.

As far as getting 2.1.30 to work? There are many many options. Maybe choosing a different target would work better if less accelerated.
