want to reduce size of an Icon

Hi All,
I am having some icons on Sun Solaris 8 machine. I want to decrease dimension (width and height) of icons. Icons has extension .icon
I have tried to reduce size of these icons in windows but that file format is not supported by window graphic tools.
I have also tried dticon tool but right and bottom edges are clipped off. I want small icon to look as it looks in big icon, means to say clipping from all the directions.

If everything else fails, you can make a screen shot of a window which
contains your large icons, save the image in a normal graphics format,
use a paint program to cut out the icons and resize them to the size you want.
gimp is a good tool for this.
