Has anyone tried to add the XmCSText widget from version 2.0 to version 2.1.x

I think it would port fairly easily, but you have the licensing issue I don`t believe the source was ever released. If you are a source licensee for OSF/Motif 2.0, you could extract the source (plus all the little pieces in the resources tables and the Transactions file) and roll it in -- to your application, not into your 2.1 library.
But the real issue is that XmCSText wasn`t deemed to be a good enough widget to make the final cut. You`ll be giving yourself maintenance problems.
What people have been doing, instead, is using an HTML displayer such as XmHTML.
