I downloaded open motif 2.1 from metrolink.com. I dont know how to install. I have Red Hat Linux 6.2 and my application needs libXm.so.2. I tried rpm -ivh openmotif-2.1.30-5_ICS.i386, and I get error `Only packages with major number <=3 are supported by this version of RPM`. Please help me.

Installing open motif 2.1 on RH 6.2
The error you are getting is in reference to RPM and is not a problem with the openmotif package you downloaded per se. The included RPM binary package in Redhat 6.2 is older than the version that was used to package your openmotif package. You have two options, 1) upgrade your rpm binary distribution on your system or 2) find libXm.so.2 from another source if you do not need to install the openmotif package. RPM 4.02 is the latest stable version and you may be able to find a pre-compiled version on http//www.rpm.org/ aka http//rpm.redhat.com/
Good luck!
Thanks for the prompt response. As i mentioned I am new to RPM. There are 100`s of files in ftp//ftp.rpm.org/pub/rpm/dist/rpm-4.0.x site. I don`t know which one to pick and how to install. Please help.
This is not the proper forum for discussing Linux questions. This forum is for Motif. I suggest you post your question to the RPM usenet news group http//www.deja.com/topics_if.xp?search=topic&group=linux.redhat.rpm and someone there will be able to help you. You could also read the man pages on RPM and check out Redhat`s support site ( http//www.redhat.com/apps/support/ ). Unfortunately all of the answers do not come in one post, sorry, and again good luck!
Or you could just hit that link over there
<---- and download the "RPM (x86 glibc 2.1)" and not have to worry about updating your packaging system
