Is RedHat going to stop including Motif in future releases?

Submitted by resaaconso on Wed, 12/09/2009 - 23:39.

We've been directed to stop using Motif for new development because Redhat is going to stop delivering Motif in the near future. Anybody know anything about this?

I suspect that the "Redhat is going to stop shipping Motif" is really old news about Fedora. Several years ago, Fedora adopted a strict requirement that all software that is shipped should be under an open source license recognized by the "OSI".

A member of the OpenMotif team is actually an employee of Red Hat... And we are continuing to get contributions from him. In addition, the base software for all these distributions comes from this web site. So even if Red Hat was to not ship it, you would still be able to get the software from here.

I have confirmation of the inaccuracy of the original post. Red Hat continues (and plans to continue) to ship OM with its supported versions of Linux. Anybody that has additional concerns or believes they have information to the contrary can send me some private email through the MotifZone and I will respond.
