You might be able to make use of the X font server ( http//www.motifzone.com/resources/man/xfs.html ) to provide these fonts in a transparent way.

But I think I was not very clear in explaining my objective. I want a sample motif program which uses type1 fonts.
Is it possible to force an application to uses type1 fonts?

You`d have to do all your rendering yourself. The alternative is to have the X server do the rendering, by expanding its repertoire of fonts -- hence the reference to the font server. And I wouldn`t be surprised to find that the font classes you`re interested in are already handled.
