Can motif handle multi threading? Having the motif event handler on one thread and another thread (Corba notification) lets say updating a list. Any suggestions?

The new versions, such as Open Motif, can do exactly that, with the support of the underlying multi-thread-capable Xt and Xlib. You need to turn it on explicitly.
