MOTIF and Cygwin

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 03/25/2004 - 12:08. General Questions
Has anyone ported or recompiled Motif on Cygwin? I really, really need it - I need the file sharing without the reboot so I can run a windows program and a linux program at the same time.

Anyone that knows anything about this, or has succeeded at making a cygwin version with gcc, let me know... much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Bob

Sorry, you can't port OpenMotif to Cygwin because of the OpenMotif license. It prevents you from porting it to non-open source OS's. And since the kernel below CYGWIN is NT, it is not allowed. (We don't like this license any more than anybody else, but we've got to live with it...)

My suggestion would be to use lesstif.

You could take a look at Exceed by Hummingbird software.

I believe this can run a X Server on a PC.

I used to run X applications via rlogin to Unix/Linux in the Exceed window running under Windows NT without any problems at all and the speed was excellent.
